| What is "la Notte Blu"? |

Blue Night  "Notte Blu" (Blue Night) is a special night dedicated to celebrate the annual Europe Day (May 9). Events will occur throughout a 27 hour period, between the 7th and 8th of May, scattered all over Florence. The city will resonate with cultural, artistic and entertainment events -- all of them linked to European culture and life.  Why a Blue Night? On May 9 1950, Robert Schuman (former French Foreign Affairs Minister) released a plan to build a common institutional organisation for some European States. This declaration has since been recognised as the "starting sparkle" of the European Union , and the date of the speech as its birthdate. Since this year is the 60th anniversary of the Declaration, the Europe Direct Firenze has decided to celebrate it with a special event.  Duration The Blue Night starts at 3 p.m. on May 7, 2010 and ends at 6 p.m. on May 8, 2010. A special section called "Waiting for the Blue Night" will begin with a series of events on the morning of May 7.  |
